Floodplain management plans per valley

Murray Valley floodplain

The department is developing a draft Floodplain Management Plan for the Murray Valley Floodplain.

River Sunset, Mid Murray River.
Closed

The Murray Valley floodplain was on public exhibition from Monday, 20 May to Sunday, 30 June 2024 and is now closed.

The department is developing a whole-of-valley floodplain management plan under the Water Management Act 2000 for the Murray Valley. This will replace the five historical floodplain management plans that were originally developed under the Water Act 1912.

Stage 1 public consultation

Consultation on the key elements that will be used to prepare the draft Floodplain Management Plan for the Murray Valley Floodplain has closed. We are currently reviewing submissions and will publish a What we heard report soon. The What we heard report will summarise the feedback we received during the public consultation period from 20 May to 30 June 2024.

To assist you in understanding the key elements proposed.

We will release the full draft floodplain management plan as part of a second round of public consultation later this year.
